What We Believe

Our Statement of Faith

We believe that the Old and New Testaments are the inspired Word of God, the only infallible rule for faith and life. We affirm three creeds—the Apostles’ Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Athanasian Creed—as ecumenical expressions of the Christian faith. We also affirm three confessions—the Belgic Confession, the Heidelberg Catechism, and the Canons of Dort—as historic Reformed expressions of the Christian faith, whose doctrines fully agree with the Word of God.

Along with these historic creeds and confessions, we recognize the following Reformed expressions of the Christian faith, adopted by synod as contemporary testimonies: the call for unity, justice, and reconciliation of the Belhar Confession and the witness of Our World Belongs to God: A Contemporary Testimony.

At Brookfield Christian Reformed Church, we embrace core Christian beliefs that unite us with believers worldwide, across all ages. Our faith is encapsulated in the Apostles’ creed and its summarization of the Trinity—God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

At Brookfield Christian Reformed Church, we trust in God the Father, the eternal Creator who holds our universe in His provident hands. We cherish His covenant with humanity, a promise of grace beginning with Adam and extending through Abraham to all believers. This sacred bond affirms us as God’s children, called to faith and obedience. We celebrate this through baptism, marking even our youngest as heirs to God’s promises. In God's fatherly care, we find our assurance and our path to everlasting life.

At Brookfield Christian Reformed Church, we believe Jesus of Nazareth is the Christ, the Son of God, our Savior, and Lord. Acknowledging Him as the Messiah, we hold that He came to earth through a divine miracle, lived sinlessly, and died sacrificially as our substitute to offer salvation. Jesus rose again, affirming our faith in His power over death and extending forgiveness to all believers. In communion, we celebrate His death and resurrection, experiencing fellowship with Him. As the risen Lord, He governs from heaven, awaiting the time of His return to bring final victory and judgment. Our relationship with Jesus is the cornerstone of our faith, prompting each of us to consider our response to His transformative love and lordship.

At Brookfield Christian Reformed Church, we affirm the Holy Spirit as God, a personal force essential for salvation, the vitality of the church, and God’s active presence in the world. The Holy Spirit activates God’s plan, convicts hearts of the need for the gospel, and employs Scripture and sacraments to awaken faith. He equips believers with diverse gifts for the edification of the church and produces fruit in our lives—love, joy, peace, and more—as evidence of a life yielded to His influence. Through prayer, faith in Christ, and obedience to God, we experience the Holy Spirit's profound guidance in our journey of faith.
